Message from Patrick Dooley, Artistic Director

As I was walking to the first rehearsal for Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 I had these lyrics from the show running through my mind:

They say we are asleep
Until we fall in love
I’m so ready
To wake up now

These last few years have been consumed not only with the pandemic but also unsettling shifts in our social, political, and environmental landscape. By necessity we retreated into separate spaces, unable to gather together. But now we’re ready to wake up and move forward - renewed and refreshed - to a place of optimism and, dare I say, hope.

Our artists are feeling it, too. The energy in our rehearsal studios has been electric. Everyone is eager, yearning to channel their passion into something they can share with us all. And what better project than The Great Comet, the biggest, most jubilant and life affirming show in our 30 year history. This show is a crystal clear reminder of how meaningful live theatre is for our individual souls and community.

And we’re just getting started! As we prepare to open this incredibly ambitious project, we are also busy hiring over 150 artists for our 2023 Season. We are committed to raising salaries for our artists to address the cost of inflation and provide extra compensation for preparation time outside rehearsals (learning all those lines!). Well-supported artists make better art and better art makes a better world!

We hope you'll join this effort with a contribution to our Annual Artist Campaign. We need to raise $150,000 to support the visionary and determined actors, directors, designers, technicians who enrich our lives. Without a doubt, we reopened our doors this year because of supporters like you! Now we need to keep the momentum going so that our local artists can thrive.

We hope you’ll partner with us so we can continue to serve this extraordinary community.
No gift is too small. Thank you!

Onward!

Patrick Dooley
