August 8 & 9, 2016, doors at 6pm; performance at 7pm

Description

Set in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn, brownsville song (b-side for tray) is a powerful tale of resilience in the face of tragedy. Moving fluidly between past and present, this bold new play tells the story of Tray, a spirited African American 18-year-old and his family, who must hold on to hope when Tray's life is cut short. Kimber Lee's lyrical social drama about the shocking death of a young African-American teenager is a poignant story for our time, and demands the attention of audiences far and wide.

Kimber Lee has three hometowns: Pyungtaek, South Korea; Nampa, Idaho; and Seattle, Washington. Her plays include fight, different words for the same thing and tokyo fish story. In 2014, Center Theatre Group presented the world premiere of different words for the same thing in Los Angeles. Lee’s work has also been presented by the Lark Play Development Center, Page 73, Hedgebrook, Seven Devils, the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, REPRESENT! Playwrights Festival ACT/Seattle, Great Plains Theatre Conference, Southern Rep and Mo`olelo.
