Shotgun Players is equally committed to presenting challenging work and taking care of our patrons.
Content advisories are a tool to help our patrons choose how they want to engage with each play. While we have tried to cover the most common sensitivities, the lists below are not exhaustive. Some listed advisories are only briefly mentioned in the plays, whereas others are major themes of the work.
Content advisories for our full 2021-22 season shows are coming soon!
If you have any questions about these content advisories, we encourage you to call or email the box office, and we’re happy to provide more context. (510.841.6500, ext. 303 or email@example.com).
Every Time I Feel the Spirit is play written specifically for Zoom about a young, queer pastor attempting to navigate her new congregation’s shift to online worship due to COVID-19.
Some scenes are presented in the form of an interactive digital church service. Patrons are addressed as members of a church community and given the opportunity to reflect on religious teachings or offer their own prayers in the chat. They will also have the opportunity to speak or be seen on camera, but no one is obligated to do so.
In addition, Every Time I Feel the Spirit includes the following advisories:
- The COVID-19 pandemic is a central theme of the show
- References to the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor
- References to homophobia
