Bridging the Gap | Grants for theatre artists 35+
Shotgun Players Bridging the Gap fund is a program for theater artists aged 35 years and older who have worked on a minimum of two Shotgun Players main-stage productions. Our goal is to help address the challenging financial needs of working artists who wish to enhance their careers and improve their craft by investing time and resources for training, creative development, and personal experimentation. It's never too late to take it to the next level!
All theatre artists understand the difficulty of their chosen career, but those pressures grow exponentially as these artists take on the additional expenses that come with age. We want to make it possible for maturing theatre makers to have targeted resources for continued enrichment and growth.
We are proud to announce the recipients of the 2016 Bridging the Gap grants:
Ms. Butterfield will attend a one month intensive training course with Shakespeare & Company in New York City.
Ms. Crook will have a three month residency with The Institut für Alles Mögliche in Berlin, Germany where she will create “design-driven” theatrical experiments.
Mr. Jackson will spend one month in New York City meeting with theater artists/directors so that he can expand his career beyond the Bay Area.
Ms. Riddley will join Yoga Mountain Studios in Fairfax for one year.
Ms. Whitaker will join the United Scenic Artists of America union to advance her career as a costume designer.
Ms. Wilmurt will have a technology upgrade to support her work as an artist.
Ms. Wright will study with vocal coach Patsy Rodenburg in New York City.
A total of $25,000 was distributed to support these projects. Congratulations to all of the artists!
Bridging the Gap is made possible through the generosity of an anonymous donor.
All funds are re-granted from this generous gift.
Letters of Inquiry for the next Bridging the Gap grant will be due June 15, 2017.
