Local resources

  • The Anti Police-Terror Project : Support this Black-led, multi-racial, intergenerational coalition that seeks to build a replicable and sustainable model to eradicate police terror in communities of color.
  • The East Oakland Collective : Support this group invested in serving the communities of deep East Oakland by working towards racial and economic equity.
  • Transgender-Variant Intersex Justice Project : Support this group working to forge a culture of resistance and resilience to strengthen us for the fight against human rights abuses, imprisonment, police violence, racism, poverty, and societal pressures.
  • Ella Baker Center : Support this POC-led group which works to shift resources away from prisons and punishment and towards opportunities that make our communities safe, healthy, and strong.
  • People’s Breakfast Oakland : Support this grassroots Black socialist political organization that serves essential resources to the houseless community.
  • Black Earth Farms : Support this group focused on establishing food sovereignty in the Greater Bay Area community. They grow, harvest, and deliver nutrient-dense and chemical-free food to low-income, houseless, and food desert communities.
  • OUSD Office of African American Male Achievement : Support this effort to create the systems, structures, and spaces that guarantee success for all African American male students in OUSD.

How to be a Better Ally

  • Think before you reshare graphic videos of violence against Black people. While these images are important to raise awareness and show others the extremity of this brutality, you risk re-triggering or traumatizing Black and brown folx in your communities. Read this
  • Take time to educate other non-Black folks and challenge anti-blackness in your families and social networks. This labor should not fall on people of color who are living these experiences. Read this next.
  • Participate in advocacy to support the victims and their families; do your due diligence and make sure the organization is actually donating to the proper parties. Here's a useful tool

Direct Actions

  • Donate to support George Floyd's family's fundraisers via GoFundMe here or here .
  • Donate to Reclaim the Block which is fighting in Minneapolis to defund the police and calls on officials to invest in violence prevention, housing, resources for youth, emergency mental health response teams, and solutions to the opioid crisis. Do so here .
  • Sign Color of Change's petition demanding that Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey block the involved officers from receiving their pensions and ban them from being able to become police officers again, as well as demands that County Attorney Mike Freeman charge the officers with murder. (You can also text "FLOYD" to 55156 to sign the petition.) Do so here .
